Adding diode wiring to your Sierra is gonna allow you to safely flat tow it when you're headed down the road. The purpose of adding diode wiring is very, very similar to trailer wiring. If you're pulling a trailer behind your truck, you've gotta have safe lights that are working on the backside of your trailer. That same goes for if you're pulling your Sierra behind your motor home. more

Now the purpose of diode wiring is so that you can safely get the lighting signal from your motor home's taillights to the taillights on your towed vehicle so that you can let others know what your intentions are going down the road. The best way to explain is it's essentially going to be just like pulling a trailer. Your RV is pulling your vehicle and your trailer is going to need lights if you're pulling it behind your vehicle. So you just need to get those lighting signals safely to your taillights. more

Roadmaster's diode wiring kit is gonna take all the lighting signals on our motorhome and transfer them to the lights here at the back of the vehicle. I've got the hazard lights turned on and you should be able to see those at the motorhome as well as here at the vehicle, mimicking one another because it's just transferring those signals right to here. The diode wiring will ensure that the signals are transferred from there. You'll get all the wiring necessary to bring them from a connector at the front to the lights here at the back. more

Hi there, Terrain owners. Today, on your 2013 GMC Terrain, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install Roadmaster's diode wiring kit. Quick brief overview of all the components we've got here, 'cause there are five main components you'll need when flat towing your vehicle behind your motor home. You'll need your tow bar, which is the connection between your motor home and your vehicle; your safety cables, which is a supplementary connection in addition to your tow bar; your base plate, which is the connection on your vehicle for your tow bar and safety cables to attach to; your diode wiring, which takes all the lighting signals from your motor home and transfer them to the lights at the back of your vehicle, so people know your intentions when going down the road; and lastly, your supplemental braking system, which will apply the brakes in your vehicle when you hit them in your motor home to help you have a nice, smooth braking operation. The FuseMaster is going to be a great option for certain vehicles in which the owner's manual specifies that we need to remove a fuse before towing, which is going to be the case here for our Terrain. Yes. It is possible to pop the lid on our fuse box and go ahead and remove that fuse each time you want to tow physically.However, that's going to be a pain after a while. You're going to have to bend over, crawl underneath the dash there to get to the fuse, so that's where Roadmaster's kit is going to come into play. more

It's going to be one of the seven main components to flat tow the vehicle, the other six are going to be your braking system, the base plate, your tow bar, the battery disconnect, a brake light switch or a stoplight switch, your safety cables. There's going to be one component that I'm going to recommend and that's the battery charge line. That wiring kit is designed to allow you to transfer light signals from your motor home or RV back to the factory taillights in your vehicle so that everybody knows what you're doing, whether that's turning, braking or driving at night.Diodes are going to mount to factory wiring behind each taillight and they're going to protect the factory wiring from any back feed. Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com, and today, you're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster high powered diode wiring kit on our 2015 GMC Sierra 1500.Now our diode kit is going to allow us to take signals from our motor home, and transfer them to our GMC, so whenever we're towing it, everyone around us knows what's going on. Whether we're changing lanes, or we have our turn signal on, or we're slowing down, all the drivers around us can see the signals at the back of our truck.Keep in mind, this is only going to be one component for a safe flat tow setup for your Sierra. For our Sierra, we're going to need a base plate, a tow bar, safety cables, tow bar wiring, and a braking system. And specifically, for our GMC Sierra, I do recommend getting a battery disconnect, because it is going to make it easier, rather than disconnecting the battery.Whenever you're towing, it is important to have your lights, so everybody knows what's going on, but our diodes are going to allow us to get the lights to the back, without having to have an extra step, like you have with those magnetic lights. Those, you're going to have to set them up, each time you want to tow your truck, and then, once we get where we're going, we're going to have to take them down.Not to mention, typically, there's a wire that's going to be running all the way along the side of the truck, going to the front, to hook up to the motor home. And that wire could potentially start dragging against the paint, and as we're going down the road, eventually scratch it.Our diodes are going to be a one-time installation, so we're not going to deal with any of that. more

You will need a baseplate and that's going to mount directly onto the frame of your Canyon so we have a solid connecting point for our tow bar. Our tow bar is going to be our second item and that's going to connect to the baseplate so that we can hook it up to the motor home, as well.Then we'll have our safety cables and it's going to be secondary safety device in case anything we're to happen to the tow bar become disconnected. This is going to prevent our Canyon from continuing down the road.We'll have a braking system and that's going to apply the brakes to the Canyon itself so we won't have to rely on the motor home to slow it down since we're adding so much weight.And, finally, one last item I would highly recommend is the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect, because in order to flat to our Canyon we do have to disconnect the battery to put it in a tow mode and the Automatic Battery Disconnect is just going to make it a lot easier and a lot more convenient without having to open the hood and get tools out.Our diodes are going to serve two major functions. They're going to take the signal from our motor home as well as the signal from our truck and allow them to go into one, single housing. more

Today on our 2016 GMC Canyon, we're gonna be installing Roadmaster's Diode Wiring Kit. This diode wiring kit is gonna take your turn, stop, and tail lamp signals from your motor home and allow them to be transmitted back here to the taillights on your vehicle, so you can be DOT compliant in all states when flat-towing your vehicle behind your motor home.This is gonna directly send the signals from your motor home's seven-pole connector back to the taillights on your vehicle. The diodes that are installed on the taillight ensure that the electrical signal can only go to your bulbs, and not back to any electrical component inside the vehicle. The diodes act as a one-way check valve for the electrical current, ensuring that that doesn't happen.Connect our electrical connection, and our breakaway switch. Today, in our 2017 GMC Acadia, we're going to be installing Roadmasters diode wiring kit. If the tow bar you have came with a coiled cable, or you already have one, you can get Roadmasters universal high power diode wiring kit, which comes with the diodes and the wiring, but does not come with the six pole connector or the coiled cable. As far as your complete flat tow set up, you're going to need your base plate, your wiring kit, you're braking system, and your tow bars. And in the event your tow bar doesn't come with safety cables, you'll need to get some of those as well.This diode wiring kit is going to allow our motor home's turn, stop, and tail lamp signals to be transferred from the motor home to our vehicle, and our lights illuminate appropriately to display those signals behind us. What's great about the diodes is that it isolates the circuits that's on your vehicle from the ones coming from your motor home, so you don't have to worry about any back feeding causing damage to your vehicle.To install your diodes and your wiring, you are going to need to remove your tail lights on both the driver and passenger side. Today on our 2017 GMC Sierra, we're gonna be taking a look at, and show you how to install the Roadmaster diode seven wire to six wire flexo-coil wiring kit, part number RM-15267.This is what our wiring looks like when it's installed on our vehicle. You can see the six pole plug keeps a nice clean look on the front of the vehicle. It's going to have a spring loaded lid. On the inside of the lid, it's going to have a little lip that's going to sink right down inside of that circle, it's going to help keep any dirt and debris from getting in on our connections. This is going to give us the connection point between our RV and our GMC to transfer all our light functions to our towed vehicle, and how it's going to do that is with our umbilical cord. Our umbilical cord, you can see it is coiled, this is going to help keep it from dragging the ground while we're traveling. more

Part number RM-15267.To complete our Flat Tow setup on our 2018 GMC Acadia, we use Roadmaster's EZ5 Base Plate Kit, Roadmaster's Diode Wiring Kit, SMI's Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, and Demco Dominator Tow Bars.This Diode Wiring Kit is going to allow you to hook up your vehicle behind your RV and get all that necessary lighting signals transferred from your RV back to the lights on the back of your vehicle.Also included with the Kit you get your 6 Pole Connector, which is the interface that allows your vehicle to connect to your RV. And you get the 6 Pole to 7 Pole cable that connects those two together.The diodes that are connected into your tail-lamp circuit ensures that the signals coming from your RV don't back-feed into you vehicle's circuitry; it's only sent straight to the bulbs.We'll begin our installation by removing both our driver's and passenger's side tail lamp assemblies. To remove those, you're going to want to pop out the little plastic covers exposing the screws.
